Since May 25th, and the senseless and horrific murder of George Floyd, at the hands of a police officer, I have felt compelled to write. I am not a person who expresses their opinion publicly before this point, unless it is with those whom I am comfortable with. I have felt an inner voice that needs to be heard. I am a woman of faith and passion. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would be taking a public forum, but I feel that God has called me to do so.
I am a wife and daughter of law enforcement. My husband has been a Minneapolis Police Officer for 25 years. He went to college to play football and baseball, but ultimately to pursue law enforcement. My father and his brother are and were police officers respectively for over 40 years each.
My husband is the most honorable, loyal, compassionate, kind and loving person I have the privilege to know. He helped me create and raise two of the most wonderful human beings this earth could have. This blog is not about him or me or them at all. You will hear our stories, but that is only to provide a platform and perspective that you may not otherwise encounter. This is about using my voice, his voice, our voice, to bring about change. He is the boots on the ground. I am over the air. His voice cannot be over the air. He will be removed and silenced. He needs to be the boots on the ground.
I am doing this at great risk to my professional reputation as well. I will write about this in the days to come, but I have come to a point that I care enough about everyone in our communities, EVERYONE, that I will continue to talk while taking that risk.
